Mariah Carey’s octave-jumping vocal range may be the thing that’s elusive during her world tour.

The pop diva had audible problems while trying to hit her signature high notes during the kick-off of her Elusive Chanteuse Show world tour in Tokyo on Saturday. The blunder was notable during her performance of her 1995 hit “Always Be My Baby,” as seen and heard in fan footage.

Other fan-proclaimed “vocal malfunctions” happened during her performances of 1990s hits “Hero,” “My All” and “Vision of Love.”

Listeners were displeased with the 44-year-old’s subpar belting, with Carey drawing complaints from fans who asserted that the Grammy-winning diva could no longer sing the way she used to, according to the Daily Mail.

At least she wasn’t lip-syncing, right?

The former “American Idol” judge paid no mind to the critics on her Twitter feed, retweeting only words of affirmation from her followers.

Also during the show, Carey -- who reportedly split with husband Nick Cannon recently -- changed the lyrics during her rendition of Billie Holiday’s “Don’t Explain” in a way that sparked speculation she was accusing her husband of infidelity, according to TMZ. Instead of “And I know you cheat / Right or wrong, don’t matter,” she sang, “I know you cheated ...,” punctuating the line with profanity, as heard on an audio recording obtained by the website.

Additional recordings from the performance have her changing up lyrics on other songs and speaking some lines instead of singing them.

Incidentally, “America’s Got Talent” host Cannon was implicated in initial stories when news broke that his new client Amber Rose had filed for divorce from Wiz Khalifa. Cannon’s camp has denied the accusations.

One thing that is for sure: He’s already covered up the big “Mariah” tattoo on his upper back with an even bigger tattoo featuring Jesus Christ on the cross.

Carey and Cannon have two children together, 3-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe. Divorce rumors remain just that -- rumors -- with Cannon acknowledging via Twitter only that this is a “challenging time for me and my family.”
