The day the world turned purple to remember Prince

The music industry, nation and world took time to memorialize Prince in the best way through his signature color: purple. Here’s a sample of locations choosing to recognize the Purple One after his death at 57 on Thursday.

Downtown Los Angeles changed hues as City Hall was lighted up in purple Thursday night.

The Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans captured a similarly aubergine hue when illuminated in memory of the Artist.

Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas, went a different way to honor Prince, choosing instead to display on its video screen the unpronounceable symbol (known as the Love Symbol) that the musician temporarily went by .

In Minneapolis, one of the many places remembering their native son (Prince was born in the city in 1958) was Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins, which went purple and included a touching message to the deceased musician.

The Hard Rock Cafe in New York City opted for song lyrics, specifically those to “Purple Rain” in its memorial to the singer.

Google swiftly implemented a Prince-themed Google Doodle, featuring its logo gone purple, streaked with purple rain.

Snapchat also honored Prince by introducing a Purple Rain filter that adds drops of purple rain to whatever users are snapping at the moment.

In Los Angeles, the Forum went purple. Prince played a legendary 12 shows at the location in 2011, part of his Welcome 2 America tour.

Back in Minneapolis, the famed I-35 Bridge over the Mississippi River was illuminated purple.

Similarly, the Burns Bridge in Boston, connecting Worcester and Shrewsbury, memorialized the artist with violet lights.

Even space had the good taste to feature a vivid shade of purple, as NASA shared a photo of a nebula in honor of Prince’s passing.
