Not going to Coachella? Dance the night away in L.A.

Share

All eyes in dance-land turn to Indio for Coachella next weekend, as both the Sahara Tent and the new Yuma Tent host EDM stars, ‘90s survivors and an especially adventurous young undercard.

As always, there will be satellite parties during both weekends — Desert Gold at the Ace Hotel (this year partnering with Jack White’s Third Man Records, Warp Records, the Do-Over and more) and the Filter Magazine Yacht Club (this year with a set from the great electro-rock act St. Lucia) are perennial favorites. SBE is getting in on the game with the neo-house duo Nervo at the Renaissance Esmeralda on April 12 and Chuckie on April 13. Mostly, though, check your phones for frantic invites — the best sets often happen unannounced and at the last minute.

But for those staying in L.A., there’s still a host of smart, rowdy clubgoing to be had. A Club Called Rhonda brings the sultry house maven Tensnake to Los Globos on Friday, while the Australian trance vocalist-turned-DJ Emma Hewitt will turn ears (and heads) at Exchange the same night. The ethereal L.A. beat-scene producer Shlohmo has had a quick rise after collaborating with R&B; singer Jeremih, and his set at the Fonda Theatre on Saturday will feature a full live video rig in accompaniment. Across Hollywood Boulevard, the tastemaking legend Pete Tong holds court at Avalon, and down Sunset the Italian mashup crew DJs From Mars headlines Bootie L.A. at the Echoplex.

On April 17, the Zero Film Festival throws a lunch party with a nice DJ lineup of Justin Miller, Tim Sweeney and the ladies of Warpaint at the downtown L.A. Standard Hotel.

And on April 20 the Avicii-affiliated duo Cazzette hits Avalon. At the Echoplex on April 23, the MPC sampler-wizard AraabMuzik will make your eyes pop; the omnivorous house duo Stanton Warriors goes deep at Exchange LA on April 25, while the veteran Lee Burridge joins the L.A. collective Droog at Sound on the April 26 and trance titan Paul van Dyk gets vibey at Avalon on April 27. Stay hydrated, kids.
