Eddie Vedder, Lana Del Rey, Elvis Costello and X are at the top of a bill for a new summer music festival that will launch Aug. 27 and 28 at Orange County’s Doheny State Beach in Dana Point.

The Ohana Music Festival, taking its name from the Hawaiian word for extended family, the event also will include performances by Mudhoney, Band of Horses, City and Colour, Cat Power, Corinne Bailey Rae, Ryan Bingham and veteran O.C. punk-roots musician Jonny Two Bags, among others.

“Opportunities to create something so pure and special with people that you have immense respect for don’t come along often,” Rich Best, Live Nations’ president of booking for Los Angeles, said in a statement. “Ohana brings together a very unique collection of music and culture in a setting that could not be any more beautiful. It’s something very different than anything happening in today’s festivals.”

Vedder and Costello top the first-day bill, while Del Rey and City and Colour lead on the second day.

Organizers say the festival is designed as a relaxing celebration of ocean and surf culture, and to that end, champion surfer Kelly Slater is participating by helping design a surf- and ocean-awareness exhibit for the festival.

Ohana, the promoter says, will “help generate funds which will support the efforts of maintaining coastal access in south Orange County state beaches.”

On the eve of the music festival itself, a fund-raising luau with music by the John Doe Experience will be held at the nearby Ritz Carlton hotel in Laguna Niguel.

Tickets go on sale Friday and will be priced at $99.50 for a single-day admission and $199 for both days; VIP packages will be $499. Full information is available at the Ohana website, www.theohanafest.com.
