Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will dive with the stars in ‘Splash’
NBA Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and extreme skier Rory Bushfield are the latest two celebrities to join the cast of ABC’s upcoming “Splash,” the reality competition series that will feature famous people attempting to look graceful while diving into water. This will be especially interesting when it comes to Abdul-Jabbar, 65, who stands 7 feet, 2 inches tall. Here’s hoping the swimming pool is deep enough.
The previously announced cast of “Splash” (which was previously called “Celebrity Diving”) includes comedian Louie Anderson, singer and former child star Drake Bell, Chelsea Handler’s sidekick Chuy Bravo, former “Baywatch” star Nicole Eggert, “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne” star Keisha Knight Pulliam, Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, former Miss Alabama Katherine Webb and former star of “The Girls Next Door” Kendra Wilkinson.
The series is an import of a concept that’s already been a hit on Dutch TV, where it was called “Celebrity Splash.”
Although people in Holland may love to see famous people diving into water, the appetite for such a show in the States is still unproved. Fox aired its own celebrity diving special last month, “Stars in Danger: The High Dive” to depressingly low ratings.
“Splash” premieres March 19.
