‘MasterChef’ recap: What would you do if you were Jordan?

Share

Ah, the “MasterChef” squeeze play. Damned if you do, and damned if you don’t.

Jordan found himself trapped this week after he leading his team to defeat in this week’s challenge: Feeding a horde of hungry elementary schoolchildren. He had a good team, he had a fairly good concept -- spaghetti and meatballs -- but the execution quickly fell apart and he was beaten by Jesse.

The real throttling, through, came during a pressure test back in the “MasterChef” kitchen. Jordan could save himself, or cook for his life. He chose the “B” move, to politely quote Krissie.

But what would you do? After all, this is a competition for a briefcase full of money. Would you choose the honorable thing? Or would you take the easy way out?

Jordan took the easy way out and it is already haunting him: When Luca later cooked his way to immunity, and a chance to submarine somebody in the night’s cupcake challenge, he targeted Jordan. He swiped Jordan’s stand mixer, forcing Jordan to do it all by hand. (In a way, it all served to prove just what a competitor Jordan is: Even Luca had to admit Jordan’s hand-made cupcakes were pretty spectacular.)

It all proves that winning is not everything in “MasterChef.” Sometimes, it pays to play it safe and stay in the middle of the pack. So you don’t get your head lopped off!

Adriana was sent packing for using canned guava during the cheesecake challenge (C’mon, really? Haven’t we seen enough reality TV cooking shows to realize that straight-up canned anything will not fly?!?) Later, Malcolm went home on a dozen cupcakes that were more like a “door stop” than a confection, thanks to a “weird taste” and an overall “gross” texture. Not good!

Would you agree these were the best back-to-back episodes in “MasterChef” history? The first hour was all about pressure, and the second hour was all about entertainment (and some more pressure.)

Introducing chef Gordon Ramsay as your guest celebuchef, the man who only needs 30 minutes (or less) to effortlessly do what it took the rest of the home cooks a frantic 60 minutes to accomplish.

Only problem: Not getting to watch the chef cook for an hour.

But it was plenty entertaining watching him stroll, drink tea, and otherwise let the competitors know who the real master chef is.
