‘Bachelorette’ recap: 5 things you didn’t see on ‘Men Tell All’

Ah, the Men Tell All episode. Arguably the most drab installment of “The Bachelorette” every season, used to get us salivating even more for the juicy finale.

Luckily, I attended the reunion show -- read: I sat in a sound stage with other journalists and watched the drama go down in the studio via monitor -- so I have some good behind-the-scenes dirt for you. Without further ado, I present to you five things you didn’t see during Monday’s episode of Men Tell All:

1. Michael performed a horrid song for the audience.

I know: Michael who? C’mon, you guys, he’s that dude with the long hair who uttered two words all season long. Apparently, he fancies himself a modern-day Bob Dylan, and decided to perform a diddy he had penned himself set to the tune of -- wait for it -- Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe.” However, his voice was completely average, and his lyrics were significantly below average. A sample: “My name’s Dougie / I got big muscles / And when I kiss you / I’m awkward-humble.” Wonder why that gem didn’t make the cut.

2. Kalon was an even bigger jerk than he appeared to be on TV.

So remember when Kalon was on the hot seat, and he said “Americans likes things sugar-coated,” and the audience responded disproportionately with loud gasps? That’s because what he actually said was “Americans likes things sugar-coated -- that’s why they’re all diabetic” Yep. That happened.

3. Oh, and that helicopter stunt? Not Kalon’s idea.

Mr. Luxury Brand Consultant claims that it was the producers’ idea to have him fly in via helicopter on the first night. “It wasn’t necessarily my idea, but when a production team comes in your room and says, ‘Do you want to show up tomorrow in a helicopter?’ -- what guy would say no?” he told me backstage after the taping. 4. Ryan revealed the secret of the Vs in his beard.

Hint: It takes him way too long to groom.

5. Emily said she and Jef did talk about his Mormon background.

So why didn’t we see the faith conversation take place? “There’s not enough time,” Emily lamented. (You can see that clip at the top of the post.) “Faith is a huge part of my life, and there’s no way I could fall in love and potentially get engaged without having that conversation. He was very open and honest about everything.”
