Tracy Morgan returns to the Emmys: ‘I had to not be so emotional in the moment’

Tracy Morgan returned to the Emmys on Sunday night, after a devastating car accident nearly took his life 15 months prior. Morgan was greeted with a standing ovation and showed signs of regaining his previous swagger as he addressed the audience, joking, “I feel like myself again, which means a whole lot of women gonna get pregnant at the after party.”

Morgan’s presentation of the Emmy for drama series to “Game of Thrones” was a triumphant moment for the actor, who suffered a traumatic brain injury and has spent much of his time since the accident in physical therapy.

“I wanted to walk my wife down the aisle with no cane. I said, ‘I want to go back,’ and my publicist Lewis Kay said, ‘Why don’t you let Hollywood welcome you back home?’ and that’s what happened,” Morgan said after the ceremony.

Morgan also spoke to how overwhelming the moment was for him, standing in front of his peers on the stage at the Microsoft Theater. “I had to not be so emotional in the moment. I wanted to let them know that I missed them very much.”

The comedian’s return to Hollywood will continue Oct. 17 when he hosts “Saturday Night Live.”
