Chanel’s haute couture show borrows from modern architecture

Chanel’s Paris haute couture show Tuesday drew from modern architecture, with much gilding on the lily, Suzy Menkes reported in Vogue. “It’s like Baroque meets Le Corbusier,” creative director Karl Lagerfeld said, and, indeed, the stated theme was “Le Corbusier goes to Versailles.” Oval shapes abounded, and in what may have been a nod to modern sensibilities, the bridal gown that traditionally wraps up couture shows was shown on seven-months-pregnant model Ashleigh Good.
