Emmys red carpet, a story in black, white and red

Will the Emmys red carpet be a story written in black, white and red?

Looks like it could be. Fashion darling Taylor Schilling is wearing a white Deco-beaded Zuhair Murad gown and a gobstopper-sized Forevermark diamond ring and climbing diamond ear cuff. The pale hue and blousy top of the dress don’t do much to distinguish her from the style pack. I prefer Schilling in more sleek, modern styles.

Anna Chlumsky of “Veep” is also in a white gown, a “magnolia” satin-back crepe Zac Posen design with cap sleeves. Laverne Cox and Padma Lakshmi are also wearing white gowns.

“Veep” star Julia Louis-Dreyfus can do no wrong on the red carpet. She is looking very presidential in a custom raspberry red Carolina Herrera halter gown with sexy burgundy patent leather strap details (and sleek, beltway insider hair). Christina Hendricks is also ravishing in red, a single-shoulder Marchesa design with gold embroidery on the bodice. And January Jones took a risk that paid off, wearing a shorter length red gown by Prabal Gurung that’s simply dynamite.

Then there are the ladies stepping out in anything but basic black, chief among them Lizzy Caplan, whose black-and-white Donna Karan Atelier gown features a dramatic crisscross back. Julianna Margulies is wearing a modern-looking Narciso Rodriguez gown with an interesting degrade black crystal embroidery effect down the front.

More to come.
