Golden Globes 2014: White out on the red carpet

The red carpet fashion choices are showing a lack of color. Actress Naomi Watts, left, is wearing a silver Tom Ford gown, while actress Margot Robbie is wearing a white silk crepe Gucci gown.

Lupita Nyong’o’s red Ralph Lauren gown aside, I’m seeing a near absence of color in the fashion choices on the Golden Globes 2014 red carpet so far, for better and worse.

One of the best examples of the trend is “Wolf of Wall Street” actress Margot Robbie’s one-of-a-kind white silk crepe Gucci gown featuring a plunging neckline and crystal embroidery. Naomi Watts’ silvery Tom Ford gown is another winner.

Emilia Clarke looks modern and chic in a custom white lace embroidered dress by Proenza Schouler. Kerry Washington is in a Balenciaga custom-bonded silk crepe petal gown in a celadon green that is so pale, it almost looks white.

I also like Tatiana Maslany’s platinum and pearl embellished pleated gown by British designer Jenny Packham. The dress is from the spring 2014 collection and is very on-trend with the all-over pleating, which has a 1920s vibe.

I’m less enthusiastic about Zooey Deschanel’s ivory tulle Oscar de la Renta gown, which is a bit blah. (Though I do like the flower in her hair.) Michelle Dockery is also wearing Oscar de la Renta -- an oyster-hued fil coupe gold sequin embroidered gown.
