What’s in Usain Bolt’s Dopp kit?

What grooming essentials does the world’s fastest man pack in his Dopp kit?

We put that question to Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt during his whirlwind tour of the Southland last October, and, in honor of his recent accomplishments -- winning the 100 meters in an Olympic-record 9.63 seconds and becoming only the second man to win the event in two consecutive Olympic Games -- we thought we’d share a few of the items he packs when he’s on the run.

Scent: “My perfume for sure -- Animagical,” was Bolt’s first response, referring to the Puma fragrance he’s the face of.

Comb: “I don’t really use hair products,” Bolt told us. “I just use a comb -- any kind of comb.”

Lotion: “I always have lotion -- Jergens has got a lot of different kinds, so it’s usually a Jergens moisturizer.”

Bolt said a Gillette Sports deodorant and antiperspirant, Colgate toothpaste and a lip moisturizer or balm round out his list of essentials.

We wondered aloud if he might be forgetting something -- like soap -- since no matter how easy he makes it look, the world’s fastest man is still breaking a sweat when he’s breaking world records.

“I don’t bring soap,” he told us. “Because when you go into any hotel or spa they always have soap and shampoo -- and also [sponsor] Puma gives us stuff like body wash whenever we travel to the world championships.”
