Free Salt & Straw ice cream at Compartes in Brentwood for Valentine’s Day

As if a Hallmark holiday devoted to love wasn’t enough cause for celebration, Salt & Straw is handing out free ice cream.

The Salt & Straw ice cream truck will be giving away free mini scoops at Compartes Chocolatier in Brentwood on Valentine’s Day. The scoop shop collaborated with Jonathan Grahm of Compartes Chocolates on two new flavors, including Compartes Chocolate’s California Love, inspired by the Compartes California Love Chocolate Bar and made with caramelized pretzels, hazelnut fudge and bits of the bars swirled into a pretzel ice cream.

The truck will also be sampling the Compartes Chocolate’s Old Hollywood flavor made with a dark chocolate custard base, Alderwood smoked salt, hand-burned caramel and pieces of the Compartes Old Hollywood chocolate bars.

Other flavors from Salt & Straw’s February seasonal menu, devoted to chocolate, includes Chocolate Maya’s Chocolate Sorbet made with Maya Schoop-Rutten’s favorite chocolate Fortunato No. 4 from Northern Peru; Twenty-Four Blackbirds PB, Chocolate and Bananas made with Mike Orlando’s hand-roasted chocolate freckles, chocolate-covered honey-roasted peanuts, homemade chocolate peanut butter cups and ribbons of chocolate fudge; and Bar Au Chocolat’s Single Origin Cocoa Nibs flavor made with ground cocoa nibs.

You can stop by for a free mini scoop between 1 and 3 p.m. And the entire chocolatier series of ice cream flavors will be available at the Larchmont Salt & Straw shop from Jan. 30 to March 5.
