Kyushu and Okinawa Festival: Mitsuwa, the largest Japanese supermarket in the U.S., will be hosting a Japanese food fair from July 18 to 21 during store hours at its Torrance and Costa Mesa locations. Tokyo ramen shop Tanaka Shoten returns with its Hakata/Nagahama ramen, and other regional specialties will include dorayaki pastry with Amao strawberry pudding and caramel sauce from Kikuya, Hiranoya mackerel sushi, Kumajun’s ikinari dango sweet potato pastry. 21515 S. Thursday Mac ‘N’ Cheese: Each Thursday night until Aug. 29, the Hudson will be serving specialty macaroni and cheese dishes for $11 each. In addition to its usual with smoked jalapeño, Parmesan bread crumbs, shallots and garlic, these new selections will include ingredients such as braised short ribs, chorizo, blistered grape tomatoes, charred broccolini and wild mushrooms. 1114 N. Chaya’s 30th birthday: On July 28 from 5 to 10 p.m., Chaya Beverly Hills will be celebrating its 30th birthday. The party includes food from chef Shigefumi Tachibe, specialty “Dirty Thirty” drinks, performances by the Gumbo Brothers, Crown City Bombers, DJ Eric Sharp, fire dancers, a magician, traditional Taiko drummers, a tarot card reader and traditional Japanese games.
