Salt & Straw, the popular Portand, Ore.-based handmade ice cream company, plans to open its first Los Angeles location, in Larchmont Village, in August.

A selection of Salt & Straw ice cream has been available at Joan’s on Third since 2013, but the Larchmont location will be a full scoop shop with a variety of flavors, sundaes, milkshakes and floats.

Owners Kim and Tyler Malek are partnering with local farmers, producers, chefs and more to create a menu of flavors that celebrate California, including walnut oil from the Santa Ynez Valley; Stumptown Coffee and Compartes’ Love Nuts; tomato water and Ojai olive oil sherbet; and black olive brittle and goat cheese.

New seasonal flavors will debut each month.

Before the shop opens, Salt & Straw plans to launch an ice cream truck. The truck will make its way around Los Angeles serving some of the brand’s favorite flavors, including sea salt with caramel ribbons, almond brittle with salted ganache, and chocolate with gooey brownie and double-fold vanilla.

The original Salt & Straw opened in Portland in 2011. There are currently three shops in Portland and the ice cream is available for purchase online.
