Want to make donations for the holidays? Some places to consider

Many local organizations that serve the needy are collecting donations this holiday season. If you’d like to make a food and or monetary donation, here are some programs looking for help.

Food Finders, a food bank and food rescue program based in Lakewood, is hosting its annual food drive to serve Long Beach and surrounding communities. Nonperishable food items can be dropped off at designated Food Finders locations listed on www.foodfinders.org. Monetary donations can also be made online (https://www.foodfinders.org/monetary-donations/) or by check. According to the website, every $25 donation will help provide two families with turkeys. Food Finders is also accepting pet food.

Food on Foot delivers chicken dinners, snacks and drinks to the needy in Hollywood. Monetary donations can be made online and there is also a donation club, which includes a monthly commitment of $98. Donations go toward food, food gift cards, bus tokens and food cards. https://www.foodonfoot.org/donate/

The Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles SOVA community food and resource program is accepting food donations at any three of its pantry locations, listed on its website, https://www.jfsla.org, as well as through its virtual food drive online. The organization is especially in need of canned meat, tuna and peanut butter. https://www.jfsla.org/page.aspx?pid=323

The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank provides more than 1 million pounds of food to hungry seniors and families each week. Monetary donations can be made online for any amount. https://www.lafoodbank.org

The Los Angeles Mission is collecting donations for Thanksgiving meals. Every $2.03 donated will provide a hot Thanksgiving meal to someone in need. Donations can be made online at https://bit.ly/20InhWC for any amount.

One Voice, based in Santa Monica, https://onevoice-la.org/holiday-program/, provides food baskets to low-income families during the holidays. Each basket is $35 and comes with a card that you can then “gift” to a friend or loved one, letting them know you have donated a basket in their name. The baskets include a fresh turkey, rolls, carrots, squash, potatoes, yams, onions, rice, beans, bags of apples, oranges, candy, a fresh apple pie and canned goods. Baskets can be purchased by calling (310) 458-9961, faxing (310) 395-8740 or emailing giftcards@onevoice-la.org.

The Westside Food Bank is holding its annual turkey drive online. You can visit the website, https://bit.ly/1M385f2, to make a donation for any amount.

YMCA locations around the city are in the midst of Thanksgiving food drives. Most of the donations will be given to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and the North Valley Family YMCA Thanksgiving Food Basket Program.
