Solar Decathlon houses open for public viewing in Irvine

It’s a student competition, an experiment in green design and the most interesting house tour of the year, all in one: Solar Decathlon 2013 will be open for the public to see 20 visions of modern living Friday through Sunday, and again Oct. 10 to 13. Though some of the houses play out like architectural experiments or class projects, others genuinely feel like polished, finished homes incorporating new technologies and the fresh thinking in design.
Hours for public tours: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free. The Department of Energy, sponsor of the Solar Decathlon, has directions to the Orange County Great Park competition site. We will be adding more house profiles, judging results and other features during the run of the event to our Solar Decathlon main page.
