Earthquake: Magnitude 3.6 quake strikes in Joshua Tree National Park

A shallow magnitude 3.6 earthquake was reported Friday morning 14 miles south of Twentynine Palms in Joshua Tree National Park, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 8:36 a.m. Pacific time at a depth of 1.2 mile.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 17 miles northeast of Indio, 19 miles north-northeast of Coachella and 24 miles northeast of Palm Desert.

In the last 10 days, there have been no earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
