Earthquake: 2.6 quake strikes near Santa Monica

A shallow magnitude 2.6 earthquake was reported Friday afternoon in Santa Monica’s Ocean Park neighborhood, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 5:07 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 4.3 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was one mile from Venice and four miles from Culver City.

In the last 10 days, there have been no earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
