Earthquake: 3.8 quake strikes off North Coast

A shallow magnitude 3.8 earthquake was reported Thursday evening 12 miles from Petrolia, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 8:45 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 11.8 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 28 miles from Fortuna, 39 miles from Eureka and 44 miles from Bayside.

In the last 10 days, there have been no earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
