Irvine boy, 9, is struck and killed while riding his bicycle
A 9-year-old boy was struck and killed by a van while he was riding his bicycle Friday afternoon, Irvine police said.
The driver, a 57-year-old man, remained at the scene, police said.
The boy was hit in the intersection of Roosevelt and Bay Tree about 3:05 p.m. and died at an area hospital about 30 minutes later, authorities said.
Police were withholding the driver’s name and the child’s identity.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
