The mother of three children reportedly abducted in the Bay Area has been arrested in the shooting death of their father, police said Tuesday.

San Pablo Police Cmdr. Jeff Palmieri said at a news conference Tuesday that 35-year-old Alicia Ortez was arrested in connection with the homicide. The children’s father -- whose name has not been released -- was found shot to death early Monday morning in his backyard in the 1600 block of 16th Street in San Pablo.

Palmieri also said they have Ortez’s “male companion” in custody.

An Amber Alert had been issued for the children – ages 12, 6, and 2 – naming Ortez as a suspect in the children’s abduction.

The children were found sometime late Monday or early Tuesday in Richmond with Ortez, according to Michael Lambton, a dispatcher for Richmond-area law enforcement. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children canceled the alert about 12:45 a.m. Tuesday, according to its website.
