Anaheim authorities cleared a man described as a person of interest in a series of arson fires set Monday in Anaheim and Yorba Linda, but they were continuing to search for the suspect responsible, they said Tuesday.

Anaheim Police Sgt. Bob Dunn said three fires were ignited between noon and 3:45 p.m. Monday in Yorba Linda and eastern Anaheim.

In two of the fires, a person of interest was seen in proximity to the blazes, Dunn said.

Family members of the man identified in photos as the person of interest contacted authorities, and investigators spoke to him before eliminating him as a suspect.

The first fire was started about noon and a second about 3 p.m. in Yorba Linda. Shortly afterward, a third fire was set off Weir Canyon Road in Anaheim. Flames lapped close to homes before being extinguished.

Dunn said investigators suspect the fires are connected.
