San Bernardino police officer fired upon while on patrol

A San Bernardino police officer driving in a marked police car was fired upon early Friday morning, officials said.

The incident occurred at 12:14 a.m. Friday as the officer drove westbound on the 2300 block of Rialto Avenue, patrolling the area, according to a San Bernardino Police Department news release.

The officer heard a gunshot, and the passenger-side window of his car simultaneously shattered, according to the release. He was not seriously injured.

Police are investigating the incident to determine whether the window cracked due to a bullet or some other type of small projectile, said Sgt. Vicki Cervantes.

No suspects were found or identified. The name of the officer, who was driving alone, was not released by the police department.
