Remains of missing Cal State Northridge student found in Palm Desert
Authorities have identified the remains of a Cal State Northridge student from Saudi Arabia who went missing from his San Fernando Valley home last month, LAPD officials said Friday.
The remains of Abdullah Abdullatif Alkadi, 23, were found about 11:50 p.m. Thursday along Interstate 10 near the Cook Street overpass in Palm Desert, police said.
Alkadi, an electrical engineering student, was last seen Sept. 17 at his home in the 9900 block of Reseda Boulevard after selling his car on Craigslist, his brother told police.
Alkadi’s cellphone was traced to Beaumont in Riverside County, but the device was then deactivated. FBI agents had also joined in the search for the missing student.
An LAPD statement issued late Friday afternoon said the investigation into Alkadi’s death was at a “crucial juncture” and that no further information would be immediately disclosed.
Chief Charlie Beck is scheduled to hold a news conference about the case Monday, the LAPD statement said.
