3.4 earthquake strikes near Niland

A shallow magnitude 3.4 earthquake was reported Tuesday afternoon two miles from Niland, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 12:46 p.m. PDT near the surface, the agency said.
According to the USGS, the epicenter was 15 miles from Brawley, 24 miles from Imperial, and 28 miles from El Centro.
In the past 10 days, there have been two earthquakes magnitude 3 and greater centered nearby.
