A man was killed and a woman wounded in El Monte early Saturday when a gunman walked up to their parked car and began shooting, authorities said.
The man and woman were parked in the 11300 block of Medina Court about 12:30 a.m. when the suspect “shot into the vehicle several times,” the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
The man, who was sitting in the driver’s seat, was struck several times in the upper torso and pronounced dead at the scene, sheriff’s officials said. The woman, who was sitting in the passenger’s seat, was taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Their names have not been released.
Authorities said the gunman fled after the shooting. No description was available.
Sheriff’s homicide detectives were assisting El Monte police with the investigation.
