Gun found after armed man flees in North Hollywood, police say

Officers recovered a handgun during a search for an armed man in North Hollywood on Thursday night, Los Angeles police said.
Officers searched a roughly eight-block area near Magnolia Boulevard and Satsuma Avenue after the man ran away when police tried to stop him, the LAPD said.
The incident began about 7:20 p.m. when officers tried to stop the man because he appeared to have gang-affiliated tattoos and was reaching toward his waistband, said Lt. Brian Morrison.
Instead of stopping, the man ran away, tossing a .38-revolver aside as he made his escape, Morrison said. Police gave chase when the man hopped a chain-link fence.
One officer was injured scaling the fence while in pursuit, police said.
“He essentially got impaled on that fence,” Morrison said.
The officer received 30 stitches to his hand and arm but is expected to recover, Morrison said.
The search was called off by 11 p.m. The man is still at large.
