Teenager arrested in shooting death of 26-year-old Long Beach man

A 17-year-old was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of murder in the killing of a 26-year-old Long Beach man, police said.

Officers responded to a report of gunfire near 14th Street and Gundry Avenue around 9 p.m. Tuesday, where they found Jeffrey Keo lying in the street after he’d been shot, the department said in a news release.

Keo was taken to an area hospital, where he died a short time later.

While officers were securing the scene, they noticed a possible suspect and chased that person on foot. Investigators established a perimeter and called in the department’s SWAT unit around 10:30 p.m.

The search of a nearby residence and the surrounding area ended around 6 a.m., but the suspect was not immediately found, according to the release.

Several individuals were detained for questioning, however. After a series of interviews, a 17-year-old resident was arrested on suspicion of murder with a gang enhancement, police said. The suspect’s identity was not released because of his age.

Keo was not a gang member, according to police, but the 26-year-old was involved in a confrontation with the gunman before the shooting.
