Man who stabbed father, cut off his own hands sent to mental hospital

A man accused of stabbing his father and then sawing off his own hands was sentenced to a state mental hospital Wednesday.
A judge ordered Jason Dunn, 28, to Napa State Hospital, where the Redding Record Searchlight reported he will spend at least seven years.
Dunn was accused of attacking his father with a pair of scissors last year. He then cut off his own hands using a circular saw mounted on a stand, The Associated Press reported. They have since been reattached.
Shasta County Sheriff’s deputies found both Dunns at their home in Redding. The father was lying on the driveway with multiple stab wounds and the son was standing nearby with both hands cut off at the wrists.
Dunn avoided prison by striking a plea deal with prosecutors in which he claimed insanity.
