A Riverside County man was arrested on suspicion of using a baseball bat to strike a 27-year-old woman and her dog during a fight, authorities said Tuesday.

Angel Mendoza, 26, is accused of hitting the woman and the dog in the head in Wildomar after the brawl broke out Sunday night between several people reportedly armed with knives and bats, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Sgt. Linda Maria Hughes said the dog tried to bite Mendoza.

“Mendoza hit the dog in the head with the baseball bat, causing injuries,” Hughes said in a statement.
