The names of three people from Los Angeles County killed in a crash on Interstate 15 while on their way to a funeral in Mexico were released Saturday by the San Diego County medical examiner.
Killed were Jerson Ariel Duron Valeriano, 25, of South El Monte; his wife, Edith Duron, 22; and family friend Ivette Garcia 21.
Three other family members of Valeriano and Duron were injured: a 43-year-old woman, a 21-year-old man, and a 2-year-old girl. Their names and conditions were not released.
The crash occurred Friday afternoon on southbound I-15 near Old Highway 395. The six were traveling in a 2001 Ford Explorer when the tread came off a rear passenger-side tire.
The driver lost control, the vehicle smashed into the median and landed on its roof.
