A police officer has been stationed at an Oakland elementary school after a parent allegedly attacked a student with a hammer in a bathroom.

Oakland Unified School District officials said the 9-year-old girl was bleeding after the alleged attack Friday morning at Lafayette Elementary, CBS San Francisco reported. The officer was slated to be at the school Monday to provide extra security.

The attack was possibly tied to a feud between the girl’s family and the family of her alleged attacker, Oakland school district officials told NBC Bay Area.

The parent, identified as Haseemah Diame, allegedly lured the girl into the bathroom then attacked her, officials said. The attack ended when school employees walked in on the incident and called police, NBC reported.

Diame was subsequently booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

The girl was hospitalized with serious injuries but is expected to recover.
