A San Bernardino police officer fatally shot a man after he fled from officers investigating an emergency call about a man threatening a family with a gun, authorities said Sunday.

About 3:40 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call from a 7-year-old girl who said two men were threatening to shoot her father, said Sgt. Vicki Cervantes, a San Bernardino Police Department spokeswoman.

After officers arrived at the home, the girl and her father pointed out the two suspects to police. One man was detained, and the other fled, Cervantes said.

After a pursuit, one officer fired several rounds, striking and killing the man in an alley near West 5th street and Interocean Avenue, Cervantes said.

The man, believed to be in his mid-30, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man has not yet been identified, Cervantes said.
