Alleged gang member arrested in shooting death of teen in Pomona

Pomona police have arrested a suspected gang member over the weekend on suspicion of shooting and killing a teen boy last month as he was driving.
On Friday, Pomona’s police and SWAT team arrested 20-year-old David Bautista, who officials say shot and killed Juan Cisneros on Nov. 27 as he drove near Hamilton Boulevard and 1st Street.
Cisneros, 17, was able to drive about four blocks before the car came to a rest. He was rushed to a local hospital where he later died.
Just two weeks before Cisneros’ slaying, an unidentified gunman killed a youth pastor dropping off a friend in Pomona after watching a movie.
Cisneros’ death marked the 28th homicide in Pomona in 2013, which is experiencing a particularly violent year.
Investigators say most of this year’s slayings are gang-related with few witnesses willing to come forward with information leading to an arrest. Pomona officials last month announced they were offering $10,000 for anyone giving information that leads to an arrest and conviction in any of this year’s slayings.
So far police have made arrests in three of this year’s homicides, including Bautista’s arrest, said Pomona homicide Sgt. Hector Rodriguez.
Several witnesses gave information that helped lead police to Bautista, Rodriguez said.
Bautista was booked on suspicion of murder and is being held in lieu of $1 million bail. He’s scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.
