Santa Monica College attack: Witness found woman shot, hurt in car

Share

A man who may have been the shooter responsible for Friday’s attack in Santa Monica made a shooting motion with his hand toward a driver as he left the scene of a house fire where two people have been found dead, a witness said.

“He drove right by me,” said Austin Huck, 21, a Santa Monica resident.

Huck was driving in the area when he heard gunshots and headed toward the sound. As he approached, he said saw a man driving in the opposite direction. The driver was wearing all black, a hoodie, with what appeared to be a rifle or shotgun to the right of the driver’s seat. There was a female passenger with him who looked “distressed,” Huck said.

Huck witnessed the incident just minutes before gunfire erupted at Santa Monica College. Law enforcement sources said six people were wounded and two killed. The chain of events may have begun when the alleged gunman broke into a nearby home and set fire to another property.

That’s where Huck said he found a woman slumped in the driver’s seat bleeding from the neck and a bullet wound to her shoulder. The car was riddled with bullets and the windows were shot out, he said.

“Bullet holes in her shoulder, all over the car,” he said.

A doctor who lives nearby helped render aid until authorities arrived. Huck said it appeared the man began firing randomly at cars as they drove by.
