A 19-year-old from Monterey Park was identified as the college student who died after jumping from rocks into a pool of water in the Angeles National Forest during a hike Monday.
Kevin La’s cause of death is still pending an autopsy report, said Ed Winter of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office.
La was with a group of about 12 other college students when some decided to jump from rocks while hiking near Hermit Flats. La was the sixth person to jump into the pool, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
La appeared to be unconscious on the water’s surface before the group pulled him out and tried performing CPR. Others used their cellphones to try to call for help.
By Friday, friends and family filled a Facebook page with memories and words dedicated to La.
