Woman shot in head and killed on late-night walk in South L.A.
A woman who was walking with a male companion in a South Los Angeles neighborhood late Friday night was fatally shot when several suspects opened fire on the couple, authorities said.
It is unclear if the suspects knew the woman or her companion when they drove up next to them in the 500 block of West 95th Street at about 11:35 p.m. and started shooting, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Sara Faden, who added that the information was preliminary and an investigation was ongoing.
The woman, whose identity was not released, was struck once in the head and pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspects fled in the vehicle and “no one has been taken into custody,” Faden said. “Our gang detectives are also involved, but it has not been absolutely determined that it’s gang-related.”
