Re “The many what-if’s of Richard Nixon,” Opinion, Jan. 6

The mental gymnastics of what might have been pertaining to the life and career of Richard Nixon are certainly debatable. But what happened because of Watergate is not. Because of the president’s involvement, palpable cynicism began to shape our society when it came to our belief and trust in what our elected officials had to tell us.

That, I’m afraid, is Nixon’s lasting legacy.
