Re “Paycheck size matters,” Opinion, Nov. 1

I agree that working individuals need a fair wage. However, Donald Cohen doesn’t mention the skills and level of education of those who are employed in minimum-wage jobs.

With high dropout rates, less-than-needed competence in English and math for those who do graduate and a higher-education system that graduates students without concern for where job demand exists, it is apparent that just raising the minimum wage will not solve the problem.

It is time to look at the root cause rather than a single variable.
