Letters: Academic freedom in Israel
Re “In defense of academic freedom,” Opinion, Oct. 14
David N. Myers doesn’t mention that the political science department at Israel’s Ben-Gurion University of the Negev is heavily skewed toward neo-Marxist critical scholarship and restricts the pluralism of ideas. This is why Israel’s Council for Higher Education appointed an international panel of experts to examine the department. It recommended major changes and reforms. The department did not make the changes, and the council decided that the department should be closed.
It appears that the council supports academic freedom and pluralism of ideas and tolerance in and out of the classroom more than the university’s political science department.
