F.V. man charged with illegal campaign reimbursements

A Fountain Valley man has been charged with illegally reimbursing contributors to state Sen. Janet Nguyen’s 2012 Orange County Board of Supervisors election campaign.

Son Truong Nguyen, 38, was charged Oct. 28 with 10 counts of unlawful contribution. If convicted, he could face a sentence of a year in Orange County Jail and a $10,000 fine, according to the Orange County district attorney’s office.

His arraignment is scheduled for Nov. 24 at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana.

Son Nguyen, no relation to Janet Nguyen, is alleged to have illegally reimbursed contributors to her county election campaign 10 times between Nov. 2, 2011, and Jan. 30, 2012. The reimbursements totaled $13,300, according to the district attorney’s office.

Janet Nguyen was an Orange County supervisor from February 2007 to December last year. She was elected to the 34th District state Senate seat in November 2014.
