Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez, considered by some to be boxing’s best pound-for-pound fighter, will return to the Forum on Sept. 10, moving up in weight to fight for the World Boxing Council super-flyweight belt belonging to Mexico’s Carlos Cuadras, promoter Tom Loeffler told the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday.

The bout will be televised by HBO, following that day’s Gennady Golovkin-Kell Brook three-belt middleweight title fight at London’s O2 Arena.

The 29-year-old Gonzalez (45-0, 38 knockouts), of Nicaragua, successfully defended his WBC flyweight belt for third time at the Forum on April 23 by defeating McWilliams Arroyo by unanimous decision.

In the 27-year-old Cuadras (35-0-1, 27 KOs), he seeks a fourth world title against a fighter who’ll be making his HBO debut after dominating recent competition in his home country.

“Moving up against an undefeated champion is a terrific challenge for Roman,” Loeffler said. “Chocolatito is bringing a big spotlight for the lower weight classes, so bringing him back to the Forum is one of the most interesting fights” of the year.

Gonzalez previously has won belts at 105 and 108 pounds.

“Cuadras is a very respected champion, undefeated, and just how Roman found the spotlight by debuting on HBO, I believe many fans will be exposed to seeing how great a fighter he is on his HBO debut,” Loeffler said.

“He’ll bring a lot of Mexican fans to the Forum, and it kind of brings back the old days of Forum boxing, where you had fights like ‘Chiquita’ Gonzalez fighting Michael Carbajal — this is a very similar matchup with two undefeated guys.”

Loeffler said as Gonzalez’s flyweight foe, Juan Francisco Estrada, aims for a Sept. 24 bout at StubHub Center, their anticipated rematch could take place next year, “as long as we can get both sides to agree to it.”

Gonzalez and Golovkin also participated in a doubleheader in 2015, and Loeffler predicted this one will be the highest-rated, given that “four undefeated fighters” are in the two main events.

“Very rare in this day and age,” Loeffler said. “All four are putting a lot on the line, and it’s the type of event the sport of boxing really needs.”

Loeffler said he’ll begin selling “reasonably priced” tickets for the Forum card next week.
