Josh Beckett throws bullpen session, could start Wednesday

Josh Beckett remains a possibility to start Wednesday against the Detroit Tigers.
Beckett threw a bullpen session Sunday, two days after hurting his ankle in a start with Class-A Rancho Cucamonga.
“It was a lot more encouraging today than it was yesterday,” he said.
Beckett’s start with Rancho Cucamonga ended in the fifth inning when he awkwardly fielded a bunt.
Until then, Beckett said, “I felt good. I felt like I had good power stuff. My changeup was really good, cutter was pretty suspect. It was, all in all, pretty good.”
In the wake of the injury, Beckett said, “I had some swelling in my ankle. My calf was barking a little bit too. The calf got better with some treatment yesterday, some ice last night. Hopefully, I come in tomorrow, my ankle feels perfect.”
The Dodgers have a day off Thursday, so if Beckett can pitch Wednesday, Hyun-Jin Ryu wouldn’t have to start until Friday. Ryu has made a team-high three starts.
