Football: Notre Dame-Crespi series to continue

Share

With Sherman Oaks Notre Dame and Encino Crespi scheduled to move to different leagues in football this fall, there was talk of ending the neighborhood rivalry game. That has been prevented.

The two schools have agreed to meet in a nonleague game at Notre Dame this coming season, Notre Dame Coach Kevin Rooney confirmed on Thursday.

Notre Dame is scheduled to play Mira Costa, Birmingham, San Mateo Serra, Crespi, Canyon Country Canyon and San Diego St. Augustine in nonleague games. But that could change depending on the outcome of an arbitration hearing next week in which St. Bonaventure and Oaks Christian are trying to stay in their current Northern Area rather than be forced to join the parochial area for sports competition beginning this fall.

Notre Dame would end up playing Serra twice _ San Mateo Serra and Gardena Serra, which will be in the same league as Notre Dame in the fall.

Crespi is declining to reveal its schedule because it hasn’t been completed, Athletic Director Russell White said. The Celts are confirmed to play Westlake in a nonleague game.

Westlake has games scheduled against Canyon, Arizona Red Mountain, Alemany, St. Bonaventure and Crespi. The Warriors also could end up playing Long Beach Poly.
