Baseball: JSerra takes having fun to new level in off season to remember

Share

The latest off season activity for the JSerra baseball team involved larping, where the participants act out in a live-action game. So they dressed up as medieval warriors.

Earlier this year, there was Bubble Soccer, where the players were kicking a soccer ball while dressed in a bubble.

And don’t forget Slip-N-Slide, where they were rolling around on a slide of water.

Coach Brett Kay wants his playes to get to know each other, have some fun and prepare for a season ahead in which the Lions could be the No. 1 team in Southern California.

“There’s so much baseball played in the summer,” he said. “We wanted to create something that’s fun and team bonding.”

So, on Thursdays, when the team has an extra hour, they come up with a new activity.

For larping, the players were told to be creative. Royce Lews, with the help of his mother, showed up with his own gladiator suit and slightly oversized helmet. Chase Strumpf had a Gene Simmons wig, painted his face and started quoting lines from “Braveheart.”

Asked what’s planned for next Thursday, Kay said, “We’ll see. We’re working on it.”
