Boys’ basketball: Five Mission League teams advance to 4AA quarterfinals

Get ready for the Mission League tournament to begin in the Southern Section 4AA playoffs. All five Mission League teams won their second-round games, leaving five of the eight quarterfinalists from the league.

No team is happier than St. Francis, which went 0-12 in league but now gets to play top-seeded Crespi on Tuesday at home after pulling out a 52-49 overtime win over JSerra. Michael Allen finished with 21 points for St. Francis. De’Anthony Melton had 30 points and 17 rebounds in Crespi’s 61-45 win over Pomona.

Harvard-Westlake is refusing to let Coach Greg Hilliard end his coaching career anytime soon. The Wolverines received 30 points from Alex Copeland and 16 points apiece from Carter Begel and Ali Iken in a 75-58 win over Rancho Mirage. Chaminade defeated Laguna Beach, 72-53. Michael Oguine had 21 points. Sherman Oaks Notre Dame defeated Muir, 67-54. Chibueze Jacobs had 19 points and Gabe Rishwain 18.

Quinton Adlesh of Mission Prep scored 30 points in a 90-67 win over Lompoc. Harvard-Westlake faces Mission Prep next week.

In the Open Division, Etiwanda defeated Cantwell-Sacred Heart, 52-39, and will face Sierra Canyon in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.

In 1A, Max Hazzard scored 37 points in Loyola’s 82-55 win over Burbank. Foothill defeated Long Beach Wilson, 68-45. Westlake defeated Burroughs, 63-38. Michael Hanshaw had 10 points.

In 1AA, Braxton Shaw scored 12 points in Rancho Cucamonga’s 53-41 win over Rialto. Oak Park defeated Crescenta Valley, 66-46. Freshman Riley Battin contributed 26 points and 18 rebounds. Wesley Slajchert added 14 points and 13 rebounds. Calabasas defeated Highland, 62-51. Conner Longmire had 15 points. Valencia defeated Quartz Hill, 72-49. Malik McCowan scored 18 points and Alex Sanchez 15. Bennie Boatwright scored 23 points in Village Christian’s 75-64 win over California.

In 2A, Hart defeated Torrance, 69-46. Myles Franklin scored 18 points. La Mirada defeated West Covina, 70-23. Anthony Newman scored 29 points.

In 2AA, Thousand Oaks defeated Santa Maria, 84-54. Matt Hauser finished with 27 points. Ryan Beddeo scored 23 points in West Ranch’s 90-61 win over Summit.

In 4A, Maranatha defeated Riverside Prep, 71-50. Tyler Dorsey scored 36 points. Buckley defeated Whittier Christian, 41-36. Brendon Ferguson had 14 points and seven rebounds. Aaron Holiday scored 28 points in Campbell Hall’s 72-50 win over El Segundo. St. Genevieve defeated La Salle, 80-71. Sophomore Ross Lee had 26 points.

In 5AA, Windward defeated Webb, 81-30. Viewpoint defeated Oakwood, 79-41. Christian Juzang scored 17 points. Brentwood defeated Pacific Hills, 73-39. Andrew Gardiner had 27 points.

In 5A, Bell-Jeff defeated Vistamar, 86-57. Isaac Etter had 23 points. Abid Oses added 19.

Servite defeated South Pasadena, 68-59. Trevor Treinen had 21 points and Cameron Griffin 14.
