Commissioner Rob Wigod reacts to rejection of officials contract

The decision of the Southern Section Council to reject a three-year contract extension with officials last week has caused Commissioner Rob Wigod to put forth the disagreements mentioned at the meeting.

The fees structure for 2016-17 and perhaps beyond will now be decided by the Executive Committee on May 11.

Where’s clear is that leagues have issues with the officials.

Among those cited at the meeting: Lack of quality and consistency in officiating assignments; lack of accountability of officials; abuse of power _ ejections, technical fouls, yellow cards; politics and power struggles within the official’s organization.

It’s interesting that the City Section passed a three-year fees agreement with raises earlier this month. Members were under pressure because the Southern Section was considering a similar fee structure.
