Football: Taft quarterback transfers to Birmingham

Oreste Simi, the starting quarterback at Taft last season as a junior, has transferred to Birmingham.
He better be ready for a challenge, because Birmingham Coach Jim Rose has put together a very tough nonleague schedule that includes games against Newbury Park, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, Fairfax, Chaminade and Oaks Christian.
“Let’s play the best,” Rose said.
Simi was expected to receive strong competition from Chris Duncan, a standout last season on Taft’s junior varsity team.
