Track: Damien’s Zachary Shinnick could offer competition to Michael Norman

Share

It’s an Olympic year, so junior Zachary Shinnick of Damien doesn’t need too much inspiration. But he has added incentive in that the No. 1 prep 400-meter runner is Michael Norman of Vista Murrieta, the defending state champion.

Shinnick could be the runner to watch when looking for someone to push Norman during the track and field season.

At the California Winter Championships at Cerritos College earlier this month, Shinnick won the 300 meters in 32.90 seconds and took the 60 in 6.76 seconds. He has picked up a scholarship offer from UCLA.

L.A. Cathedral could have a very good relay team after the transfer of 400 runner Stefon Goudeau from Gardena Serra.

The Cathedral team of Goudeau, Renard Bell, Jesse Audelo and Andres Woodruff won the 4x200 relay in 1:27.48 over Damien.

Harvard-Westlake’s Courtney Corrin won the girls’ long jump in 20-01.00.
